The next two pieces from my thesis (the first one will be revised at some point)

Post traumatic stress disorder/PTSD

Pathological Gambling

Rendered in gouache as always.

Follow my facebook art page for some explanations on the pieces.

Back to school for me today, seems to be off to a pretty good start. I had class at 8:30 am, it was still dark when I woke up this morning, good times.

At least I have class tomorrow and then I’m done for the week.

In other news, I’ll be posting the video for how I make my patches on Wednesday, so keep an eye out for that if you’re interested!

My final two thesis pieces for the semester (these will be redone at some point)

1. Body dysmorphic disorder (layers of makeup)

2. Selective mutism (piles of records)

For more explanations on the pieces, visit my facebook illustration page.

Rendered in gouache.

Art over the break

As mentioned before, I’m taking patch requests (for the next 4 weeks or so). If interested, send me a message. Also, please read this for more information.

I’ve deleted my deviant art account and moved my artwork here: http://cargocollective.com/carolinewillustration

Over the break, I have some paintings to revise for thesis, but I also have plans to experiment a bit: I’m going to try some linoblock printing to make stamps, try making some stickers, and work on some bigger scale paintings. I’ll also be working on a mini black and white book with a friend of mine who writes poems.

I’m pretty happy to have some free time now, so I’m going to make the best of it. :]

Done for the semester!

Feels good mang.

Hello all, I’ve organized my music posts better now that I’ve removed the music player on my page. Tracks can be found filed under the tag songs.

I’ve also updated the theme/appearance of my blog a bit.

Also, I’ll be posting the rest of the photos from Messe Des Morts by Wednesday, when I’m done school for the semester.

Anyways, I should quit procrastinating now and get back to my painting- my final thesis painting for the semester…..no sleep tonight!

Back from Messe Des Morts! What a way to celebrate my birthday, it was amazing- saw some amazing bands and met some equally amazing people (who I hope to see again ^^)!

Can’t wait until next year if there’s another festival of the sort……

Pictures to come soon!

On a side note, there’s one more week left to this semester. I’ve made a big decision for myself regarding school- I’m going to drop two classes next semester, and take them during 5th year. I was initially in a hurry to graduate, but I figure I went through 5 years of high school…..so surely I can do the same for university. I feel this is the right decision, as it gives me a bit more peace of mind, a better sense of mental stability (which I’ve really been lacking because of school) and more time to focus on my thesis work, instead of feeling constantly panicked and inadequate. So with that said, victory lap next year- no fucks given.

Two more pieces from thesis class this semester:

1. Depression (represented by layers of clothing)

2. Anorexia (represented by measuring cups)

Rendered in gouache, as always.

Major critique at school today was a waste of time. By ‘major critique’ I mean that all the thesis illustration students gathered in a lecture hall for a presentation of all their best work so far. While it was interesting to see what others this year  had completed, the whole thing was too rushed. There were approximately 60 students with 2 pieces of work each to present- meaning each student gets to hear around 2 mins of commentary on their work.

Plus, it was just a chance for the teachers to poke fun and laugh at their minions’ work. There was constructive criticism, but when there was, it was minimal. I can take jokes but the point of this was to take away something from it, and I took away nothing. I felt like the whole thing was just to remind students that we’re just that, that we’re inadequate.

Thank goodness there’s only one major critique per semester, I can say I survived the first one (but there are still 3 smaller critiques for each individual class). Also, my work was the 2nd to be presented, I’m glad it was over with for me that early on!

Hello guys, just an update with what I’ve been up to lately- I’ve been working really hard on my projects at school, especially in regards to my thesis portfolio.

If you’ve been paying attention to my posts on that, you’ll know that I had initially wanted to do something on mental disorders, using matryoshka dolls as a metaphor for each disorder. Well, that idea had to be revised, so now I’m still focusing on mental disorders and relating them to layers- but now each disorder is related to something from everyday life that has layers. The idea is that many factors cause the build up of a disorder. My illustrations will depict the different factors that lead up to a disorder, using specific imagery.

I’ll have 12 illustrations done by next April, but for now here are the first two (I stayed up until 6 am working on these…..):

Bipolar disorder and Substance Abuse

If you’d like more of an explanation on these pieces, follow my illustration page on facebook, and take a look at the album titled ‘Thesis year (4th year).’

These are rendered in gouache, and the rest of the paintings will be too.

Intimidated by sketches

story of my life

Thesis statement finally approved! It’s evolved quite a bit from my original plan, but the main idea is still there. I won’t get to paint matryoshka dolls like I had originally intended to, but that’s ok- maybe it’s a project i’ll pursue over the summer. I’m still going to have fun with this!
